Day cruise to Koufonisia
We met up with Captain Yannis around 9:00 in the port of Piso Livadi in eastern Paros. He and the crew were getting everything ready in the boat and soon we were on our way. It’s a quite a big boat and we were about 40 of us on board.
The first part of the the trip was the crossing form Paros to southern Naxos. Half way through some friends from the sea made their appearance with a playful mood. The engine was turned off to let them come closer and soon dolphins were jumping out of the water greeting us.
As they left we carried on our way as well. After a sort stop for a refreshing dip in the waters of south Naxos, we carried on our route eastwards to Koufonisia. Koufonisia is a couple of small islands south-east of Naxos. Lower Koufonisi is uninhabited while in Upper Koufonisi there is a small village. Above all they are well known for the crystal clear waters that surround them. The flirt between the yellowy rocks of the islands and the clear waters of the Aegean sea results to various turquoise hidden paradises.
And that’s exactly what we were after! After crossing the deep blue waters of the Aegean, we finally approached the coast of Lower Koufonisi and we anchored between blue and turquoise. Soon one after the other we jumped in the water, climbed the beautiful rocks and jumped in the crystal clear waters once more! In the meantime on board lunch was getting ready!
Once we had lunch we moved on to explore more of the islands’ beauties. Overall we stopped to three or four spots before calling it a day.
As the sun was moving closer to the horizon and its light started getting a bit more mellow we approached once more our dear Paros! It was a long day but we certainly enjoyed the sea, the sun, the breeze and the hidden treasures the Aegean has to offer!
