Walking around Ampelas

Around the Island

Ampelas - Paros

It’s mid October and autumn has just started appearing. On a slightly windy afternoon we take a walk on the coast of Ampelas. Ampelas is a little fishermen village, on the eastern coast of Paros just about about 3.5 km from Naoussa. Ampelas is a quite place where traditionally people from Naoussa would move to spend the summer. Arokaria Seaside is positioned right on the coastal road of Ampelas.

We left Arokaria Seaside and we are heading North. Within 15 minutes we have already reached Aspros Gremos, a quite little sandy beach. On our way here we passed a couple of Ampela’s family owned fish taverns. There are four of them along the seafront of the village. They all have a great view and they serve fresh fish, seafood and all sort of greek dishes in reasonable prices.

After a sort exploration, we leave Aspros Gremos and we are now heading South again. We pass the taverns, Arokaria Seaside and we are at the little port next to Ampelas main beach. If you prefer having the option of a sunbed and the facilities of a beach bar, that’s your place. If you prefer something more quiet then follow us a bit further down, towards Damoulis, about 10 minutes walk from the port.

Here there are quiet creeks along the coastline facing east. That means that you get a great view of the sunrising behind Naxos in the morning, a lot of sun during the day while in the afternoon when the sun moves to the west you get natural shade from the rocks at the back.
